Frequently Asked Questions

What does fish oil do for my dog or cat?

The EPA, DHA and phosphatidylcholine found in this fish oil supplement improve skin and coat health while also supporting your pet’s gastrointestinal, renal, cardiovascular, immune, skeletal, nervous and endocrine systems.  The healthy lipids found in this supplement may also contribute to improved cognitive function, behavior, and an improved capacity for learning, specifically during training sessions.

How much fish oil do I give my dog?

A general rule of thumb is to administer ¼ teaspoon for each 15 lbs. of body weight twice daily. Dosage may be modified per your veterinarian guidance.

We recommend starting at 25% of your dog’s full dosage, increasing it gradually every 5 to 10 days, until you reach the therapeutic dose.  This is to ensure that your dog tolerates the supplement well.

How much fish oil do I give my cat?

Administer ¼ teaspoon for each 15 lbs. of body weight twice daily. Dosage may be

How long will a bottle of Ultra EFA last?

There are approximately 48 teaspoons in an 8oz bottle of Ultra EFA and approximately 96 teaspoons in a 16oz bottle of Ultra EFA.  One 8oz bottle would last approximately 96 days for a 15lb pet receiving 1/2 teaspoon per day.

What are the possible side effects of fish oil?

As with all oral supplementation, there is a risk of possible gastrointestinal upset, including diarrhea and/or vomiting.  For this reason, we recommend starting at 25% of your pet’s full therapeutic dose to ensure the Ultra EFA is well tolerated by your pet.
